The scenery and wildlife of Vindelfjällen is diverse. Species struggle beside glaciers, compete for light in tropically lush mountain birch forests or search for food in the dead wood of spruce forests. The climate varies significantly within Vindelfjällen, and depends on altitude and the distance to the sea. The low-lying valleys, such as the forests around Jillesnåle, lie quite far to the east, at an altitude of 345 metres. The climate here is continental, with pine forests and relatively little snow during winter. Around Hemavan, where snowfall in winter is heavy and the climate is maritime, mountain birch forests extend over the landscape. Vindelfjällen is so large, that during a hike in the area you will have the opportunity to become familiar with lots of different habitat types.
